In a speech given the Police Federation on 23 May, Sajid Javid said: “I want you to have the resources that you need.
“We need to think more about the long-term funding of the police, so my pledge to you is this: I will prioritise police funding in the spending review next year.”
He acknowledged that the government had made some “difficult funding decisions” because of its focus on the economy.
He highlighted the increased flexibility for police and crime commissioners to increase the council tax precept for police. This raised £460m policing this year.
Javid told police officers: “I am listening and I do get it.”
